Will AADSAS send out app without DAT scores?

I am a dentist now and I am trying to give a predent some advice based on my experiences with AADSAS. However, I applied in 2006 and a few things have changed.

When I applied we could "finish" our application without the DAT scores. The app would then be send to dental schools. We could then later "add" our DAT scores to application and AADSAS would send the scores to the schools our application was already sent to.

Does that make sense?

So my question is, will aadsas send out an application without dat scores or does the application need scores in order to be complete?

The AADSAS application is not complete without your DAT scores, but I believe that the application can be processed before your scores are received. Whether the school will look at an incomplete app or not wil probably vary from school to school. Here is a link to the DAT portion of the AADSAS FAQ page.

What happens if they view it as incomplete? Will they toss it aside to be forgotten forever, or will it jump up to priority for "review" once scores are sent in?

Sorry about the confusion. Personally, I submitted my AADSAS application before my DAT score was confirmed/submitted to AADSAS. The testing center will submit your scores to AADSAS automatically and your application is mailed out once your scores and transcripts have been verified. I'm not sure how it works if you take the DAT more than once.

No need to apologize, and thanks for the reply! Maybe you can chime in some more. I'm not taking the DAT until the end of June and thus, not applying until the end of June (after my DAT). Here me out. I'm applying to a lot of schools, ~15 and I suppose I could apply June 3rd and send my scores in later, but what if. god forbid, something terrible happens on test day and I straight bomb the DAT with 13's across the board. Those scores automatically get sent to my AADSAS and basically, my ~$1,500 on applications is a waste of money.

Is it safe to say that you shouldn't even submit AADSAS until you know you're happy with your DAT scores and ready to spend $$$ on applications?

If you are planning on being accepted to DS this cycle, then do yourself a favor and apply as soon as possible. Your DAT scores will be automatically uploaded by the ADA/testing center. It takes AADSAS ~30 days to verify your transcripts and roughly the same for DAT score processing. My advisor always stressed that the best thing you can do for yourself is to apply early. I know a few people that didn't get into schools that they should have because they applied too late.

I would suggest working on your AADSAS app while taking a study break. Plan on taking the DAT 1 time, do your the best, and good luck!

!

I'm a nontraditional student (out of school for 3 yrs) and I've been told that my science gpa is a bit on the lower end (3.2ish) to be considered competitive. I'm hoping to do well enough on the DAT to balance out my gpa but I want to take the exam mid to late June so that I can maximize my study time. I'm afraid that if I submit my application first without the DAT score in early June, then my application won't look strong bc there would be nothing to counterbalance my gpa. In my case, would it be wiser to submit my app after I take my DAT (which will hopefully be good enough- fingers crossed!)?

I'm basically starting studying now so if I take it mid to late June, that would be around 6-8 wks of studying. Hope that's enough. I'm going to have to go to crazy spartan mode.
